School Lunch Packing Chart & Meal Planning as a Family

Jan 8, 2025

You are what you eat 🍎 I have always enjoyed clean, minimally processed foods. When I became pregnant and the list of “don’t eat this, don’t drink that” was shared, I had a moment of reflection. If I couldn’t eat it when I was pregnant, why would I want it when I wasn’t and why would I give it to my kids? This started a trickle-down effect to what I used to clean our home and has continued through the loss of my stomach to #CDH1 stomach cancer.

What helps my children want cucumbers, and apples and build their own lunch pizzas?

  1. I involve them in the planning process.
  2. They come grocery shopping with me and learn to read labels for ingredients.
  3. They feel good when they eat well {& bad when they make choices that don’t align – which I allow them to do, the natural consequences of being on the toilet for them is enough to veer away from those things.
  4. Everything is in moderation. If they want a popsicle, great, they get one treat a day at whatever time they choose, but that’s it for the day. I am by no means a nutritionist, but I have seen firsthand that our time and focus on this pays off in more ways than one. If you want my little packing chart I modeled off something I saw once on Pinterest, you can download it quickly here from the blog.
