FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Does a Certified Sleep Coach Do?

A pediatric sleep coach helps parents establish healthy, age-appropriate sleep habits for babies, toddlers, and young children. While many families seek support for common sleep challenges, pediatric sleep consultants can also help prevent sleep problems before they begin by creating strong sleep foundations early in life.

Since nearly 90% of brain development happens before age 5, quality sleep plays a critical role in a child’s growth, emotional regulation, learning, and developmental milestones. A pediatric sleep coach educates parents on how to create healthy newborn sleep routines that support optimal development and long-term sleep success.

A pediatric sleep consultant may help with:

  • Creating the ideal sleep environment, including light, sound, and room temperature
  • Feeding schedules and nutrition as they relate to infant and toddler sleep
  • Age-appropriate naps, wake windows, and daytime sleep schedules
  • Consistent bedtime routines and calming wind-down strategies
  • Sleep disruptions related to reflux, anxiety, ADHD, or other behavioral and medical concerns
  • Night wakings, short naps, early morning waking, and bedtime resistance

Most importantly, a pediatric sleep coach provides personalized sleep training strategies tailored to your child’s needs and your parenting style. Families receive compassionate guidance, evidence-based sleep solutions, and ongoing support to help everyone get better sleep.

How Can a Virtual Sleep Consultant Help?

Sleep deprivation affects the entire family. Exhausted parents often experience increased stress, mental fatigue, and physical burnout, while children who struggle with sleep may experience mood swings, tantrums, difficulty concentrating, weakened immunity, and delays in cognitive development.

If your baby or child is waking frequently during the night, you are not alone. Research shows that more than 70% of infants and nearly half of preschool and school-aged children experience nighttime wakings. A virtual sleep consultant provides personalized, expert guidance to help your child develop healthy, independent sleep habits in a gentle and supportive way.

Through one-on-one virtual sleep coaching, a certified pediatric sleep consultant can help you:

  • Transition away from rocking, bouncing, nursing, or bottle-feeding to sleep
  • Stop spending hours lying next to your child at bedtime
  • Reduce night wakings, early morning rising, and short naps
  • Create a consistent, age-appropriate sleep schedule and bedtime routine
  • Build healthy sleep habits that support your child’s growth and development
  • Feel more confident and supported in your parenting journey

With a customized sleep plan and ongoing virtual support, a pediatric sleep coach can help your entire family achieve better sleep from the comfort and convenience of your home.

What Ages Do Your Sleep Consulting Services Cover?

Our certified pediatric sleep consultants support children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. Whether you have a newborn waking frequently to feed, a toddler experiencing a sleep regression, or a school-aged child struggling with bedtime anxiety or night wakings, we provide personalized sleep solutions tailored to your child’s developmental stage and unique needs.

Our virtual sleep consulting services can help with:

  • Newborn sleep schedules and overnight feedings
  • Infant sleep training and nap transitions
  • Toddler sleep regressions and bedtime resistance
  • Preschool and school-aged sleep challenges, including anxiety and night wakings
  • Teen sleep issues, inconsistent sleep schedules, and poor sleep habits

While sleep challenges in babies and toddlers often affect parents most directly, sleep deprivation at any age can impact a child’s emotional regulation, behavior, academic performance, and overall well-being. In fact, studies show that many school-aged children and nearly 90% of teenagers do not get the recommended amount of sleep.

Infants typically have learned how to fall asleep, in many cases, with the help of someone or something that we refer to as a prop or crutch. At this age, we are ‘training’ them out of a bad habit, with slow, deliberate, and gentle coaching that, over time, builds the skill of independent sleep and minimizes the need for support or assistance.

Toddlers generally, at this point, know how to fall asleep but begin to have a certain preference or behavior they like to get to sleep. There is also an aspect of independence and empowerment. Here we help families reset expectations, build boundaries and confidence, and teach these little ones they can sleep well and feel great.

Can Sleep Consulting Services Be Covered by Insurance or HSA/FSA Funds?

Yes! Pediatric sleep consulting services may qualify for reimbursement through out-of-network insurance benefits. We provide all the necessary documentation to help simplify the claims process, including:

  • A medical letter of necessity template
  • A detailed superbill
  • An itemized invoice for insurance submission

We also accept HSA and FSA payments directly through our website, making it easy for families to use their healthcare funds toward sleep support services. If required, you can also obtain a medical letter of necessity during checkout to support your reimbursement request.

Can I Sleep Train If My Baby is Still Eating Overnight?

YES!! There are many babies who do still need to eat at night, but can also have really good sleep habits too! I will show you how to achieve this balance, recognize it’s time to eat, and provide consolidated sleep that is so crucial to their long-term health (& yours).

Will there be tears during this process?
Change for anyone is hard and if anyone tells you that making changes and adjusting your child’s sleep habits could be done without tears, they are lying to you. (Sorry….setting the right expectations here.) My goal is to tell you to MINIMIZE tears because there are a lot of factors that play into how your child will change habits and behaviors, but I lay it all out there for you. If it was simple you wouldn’t be here.
What Sleep Training Methods Do You Use?

There are several common approaches to sleep training, and most programs incorporate some variation of these foundational methods. It’s important to remember that the “method” is only one part of a much larger process. True success comes from understanding the full picture, your child’s sleep biology, environment, routines, and developmental needs, not just the technique itself.

We take a holistic, individualized approach to sleep coaching. No two children are alike, and no single method works for every family. Instead of applying a one-size-fits-all technique, we assess your child’s age, temperament, sleep patterns, and developmental stage to determine the most appropriate strategy.

Our goal is to guide families in choosing an approach that aligns with their parenting style while gently building independent, healthy sleep habits in a supportive and responsive way.

Is This Cry-It-Out Sleep Training?
No, “Cry it out” is placing a baby in a safe space, allowing them to cry until they fall asleep on their own, without engagement from you or without you in the room. We teach you about how to identify the best method to align with your personality and your family’s sleep goals.

If sleep has evaded your family for too long,  it’s time for us to chat.

We’ll create the individualized plan you need to turn your sleepless nights around.
